Our Story

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” – Matthew 16:18

How it all started...

Philippi Baptist Church has been a fixture in the Locust Grove community since before 1827.

Since the time of its constitution, church members have met for worship in several different buildings starting with a brush arbor. We began as a small country church in a rural farming community and have grown with the community over the years. The latest building program was completed in 2012, with plans for more renovations to come.  Philippi has grown and changed throughout the years but has always tried to stay true to its roots: sharing the love of Christ and ministering to our neighbors and our community. We are committed to shining the light of the Gospel to our community and the world.

Expanding the vision...

Although we began as a rural church consisting of a few families in a farming community, we've since grown from those original roots into a fruitful harvest that consists of both new believers and newcomers to our community of Locust Grove.

We're excited to meet our new neighbors as many of them arrive from other states and countries. Our Gospel mission begins with each new person who walks through our doors.

Where we are headed...

We are developing ministries that will provide a place for every member of your family to belong. With our nursery ministry and our newly launched "Treehouse Children's Church", there is always a place for your children to learn the basic stories of the Bible and all about our glorious Savior while you attend our Sunday service. Our "Wednesday Night Live" provides you an opportunity to get connected to the Philippi family in a relaxed environment and build relationships with others - around the Word.

We are currently developing more outreach teams that will provide a place for you to serve. With an existing food pantry ministry, and recurring service at Rushton's Hope, and donations to Rachel's Hope, you will easily find a place to serve the community at Philippi.

Be a part of our story...

Join us every Sunday as we gather to worship together at 11 am.
